Diane Hampton of Franklin County was named one of 12 national clothing champions at the National 4-H Club congress in Chicago. She will receive a $300 college scholarship and an all expenses paid trip to Chicago for the congress.

Auction Company Plans First Sale Next Wednesday

The Cache Valley Livestock Auction Co plans its inaugural sale on Wednesday December 10 at the new Preston building west of town near Knudson Packing Co. Sale starts at noon with four carloads of Wisconsin cattle and 15 Hereford heifers from Hank’s Hereford near Grace. Building 60 by 74 feet, seating for 600, heated by butane furnace. Owners Greene Wells Bert Winn Merlin Whittle and Leland McLing will also serve as auctioneer.

Court of Honor Set for December 11 in Oneida

The Franklin County Boy Scouts announce a countywide Court of Honor for Thursday December 11 at the Oneida stake house with the district roundtable earlier that evening. Scouts must wear uniforms and those with merit badges or rank advancements should report to the council office in Logan to have awards ready for the ceremony.

FFA Convention to Be Held at Dayton

West Side High School hosts tomorrow a district meeting and two district contests for seven southeastern Idaho FFA chapters. Chapter officers are expected to attend the conclave. Reporters will enter FFA scrapbooks in a contest and a milk judging contest will be held.

Christmas Fest At Preston Draws Huge Crowd

A large crowd attended the Preston Christmas opening program hosted by local merchants. About a hundred people gathered for turkey and candy drawings and to see Santa Claus. The event continued with a free show for children and the annual Christmas party for area youngsters is set for Saturday December 13 at Preston High School with Santa and helpers distributing treats.

Miss DonNiece Crane daughter of Mr and Mrs W E Crane Mink Creek is in Boston Mass attending the national vocational economics convention as delegate from the Idaho state home economics association of which she is vice president She teaches home economics at Grace High school and left Pocatello Nov 29 on the streamliner City of Portland.

Smith Theron Ensign dies. LDS leader burial in Logan

Theron Ensign Smith of Cleveland died at Preston Memorial Hospital on Monday at 12 30 PM from a heart condition. Funeral services were held at 1 PM in the Cleveland ward chapel with burial in Logan cemetery. Born December 13 1893 in Logan, he married Letitia May Gray in 1915 and was a high priest in the LDS Church. Survivors include his widow three sons Theron Jr Norman Busby and Easton Ensign Smith, three grandchildren one sister Mrs ee Wash of Weston one brother G Unsign Smith of Salt Lake City five half brothers and an aunt sister Mrs Elva Keller.

Garth Eames Named Chairman of Farm Bureau

Garth Eames was elected chair man of the Preston community Farm Bureau at an election Monday evening in the courthouse basement. Frank Gilbert presided as Franklin County Farm Bureau federation president. Harold Redford and Gaylord Langpi named first vice chairmen and other officers elected for the Associated Women. Meetings set for the last Monday of each month in the courthouse.

Beatrice R Larsen Dies in Preston After Sudden Illness

Beatrice Rasmussen Larsen 67 died suddenly at a daughter's home last Tuesday. Born Mink Creek September 15, 1884, she married Ezra E. Larsen in the Logan LDS temple in 1904. She served in California on a church mission and led church groups. Survived by husband, two daughters Edith Bell and Elsie Keller, seven grandchildren, one great grandchild, and numerous Rasmussen siblings. Funeral Friday at 1 p.m. in the first ward church. burial in city cemetery.

R S Fulton local manager of Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph says about 183 Franklin subscribers will get a card directory with new dial numbers for use until March next year. The card shows how to call nearby towns by dialing O to reach the operator.

Idaho Extends Deer Open Season Across Three Counties

Dean Davis, local conservation officer, announced an additional open deer season after earlier denial. The period runs December 6 through 10 and covers all of Caribou, Bear Lake counties and the northern Franklin County area west of Strawbery Creek road to Bear River.

Mrs. Katie Ann Chatterton 87, early Salt Lake City settler, died at a daughter’s home from age related causes. Funeral held at Kingdon mortuary. Born Aug 1 1865 in Tarlington England, daughter of Benjamin Joseph Guiver and Mary Anne Harvey Guiver. Family delayed emigration after their father’s death. One brother arrived earlier.

Blood typing program expands to West Side

The Central PTA sponsors extending blood typing to the West Side with about 500 volunteers signed up. Laron Bright reports the session tomorrow at 5:30 PM in Dayton High School to aid civil defense and medical needs.

Labor Survey Planned for Lingerie Plant in Cache Valley

Preston chamber of commerce seeks to attract a large eastern lingerie factory by surveying potential labor supply. The plan requires a building of 10,000 square feet and about 1,000 workers. The survey covers Cache valley communities and Downey and Grace, with completion targeted by December 16. Company representatives will visit the area.
