Fair Plans for Franklin County Fair Near Completion
Plans for the Franklin County Fair to be held Friday August 31 and Saturday September 1 are almost complete. County agent Daniel Roberts says competition for premiums will be lively and the fair may be one of the county’s largest. A gala parade directed by the Preston Rotary Club with Bill Craner as chairman will travel Preston’s main street each evening, featuring stock shown at the fair. Craner notes the county should see the county’s best livestock and 4‑H and Future Farmers in action. Local organizations and businesses, including the Franklin county commissioners and Fair board, Preston high band, Scouts from Oneida and Franklin districts, American Legion, and several implement and tractor services, plan displays and parade support.

Government expands sugar beet and cane support for 1946
Secretary Clinton P. Anderson announced an enhanced 1946 program to boost production of sugar beets and sugarcane. The plan guarantees a national average return not less than 13.50 per ton for beets, with additional payments of about 4.00 per ton, higher than 1945. Lt McEntire Returns After Two Years at Home
Lt Wells McEntire returns from 25 months in England where he served as bomber pilot completing combat missions. After fur lough he reports to Santa Ana for reassignment and will marry his wife who will join him in the U S when allowed. He crossed the Atlantic on the Queen Elizabeth with 18 000 soldiers and sailed home on the Queen Mary with 15 000.

Memorial Sunday Service for Pvt Elden Schenk
Full honors will be paid to Pvt Elden F Schenk Sunday at 8 p m in the Fourth ward chapel. Bishop Horace Baugh will conduct the program. Schenk fell on Okinawa from shrapnel, dying instantly. his grave is in the 6th Division cemetery there. Former Glendale Bishop Lars Larsen Dies After Illness
Lars Christian Larsen aged 78, longtime Glendale farmer and bishop, died at home Thursday after a lingering illness following three major operations in Logan hospital. Born June 27, 1887 in Hogan, he moved to Glendale in 1890 and served as Glendale LDS ward bishop twice for a total of sixteen years. He leaves eight sons and daughters, thirty nine grandchildren, and twelve great grandchildren. Funeral Monday at 2 p m in the First ward LDS chapel.

Purebred Holstein Herd Chosen for Franklin County Fair
Franklin County dairy superintendent Alma Choules announced that a purebred Holstein Dairy Herd will be selected at the county fair on August 2 and September 1 to enter the Eastern Idaho State Fair in Blackfoot September 10 to 15. The eight-animal county herd must meet prescribed ages and be from up to three breeders.

Sheriff Lee Hansen reported a Japanese balloon landed near Treasureton in spring 1943 at the Johnson farm and exploded, leaving a crater. Auto Accident Sunday Injures Two Teens in Mapleton

Army Doctor Is Buried Here
Impressive but brief services were held for Capt. Eugene Roberts at Evans & Early mortuary in Salt Lake City. He died after typhus aboard a troop ship en route from India to New York, was flown to a New Jersey hospital, and died there. He had served three years overseas in the army medical corps. Burial followed in Preston cemetery. Bishop Ernest Eberhard dedicated the grave. Pallbearers included Earl Nelson and others. Surviving are his widow Dr. Catherine Foss Roberts, his parents Mr. and Mrs. Jewel Roberts, and two children, James and Jewell.
