The annual Preston junior rodeo, directed by Virgil Knudson and the Famous Night Rodeo committee, closes entries Aug 31 at 1 p m. Calf scramble is replaced by a giant fireworks display set for the east city recreation park. The junior rodeo runs 8 to 9 30 p m with fireworks lasting 30 minutes and the Franklin County Fair ends at 10 p m.

Fire Near Pea Vinery Causes Extensive Crop Damage
A Thursday afternoon blaze started by factory workers burning rubbish spread from Franklin eastward, blowing embers into straw fields belonging to Ivan Woodward. Three acres of straw and three acres of Mathias Bowout’s grain were destroyed before the Preston Fire Department and locals stopped the fire from spreading to nearby crops.
