Franklin County Fair Opens With Record Exhibits and Activities
An estimated 1500 people attended the opening day of the Franklin County Fair. Farm Bureau fun day and junior day programs, flower show, open class, needlecraft exhibits, and a record number of entries highlighted new facilities at the fairgrounds built in 1957. One hundred fifty 4-H girls took part in the 4-H style revue at the high school auditorium. Friday features livestock and dairy judging, horse pulling, and dairy calf presentation. Saturday includes a horse show, junior rodeo, and fireworks with exhibits open Friday evening.

Hunters Safety Program Planned in County
A hunter safety training program will be offered again this year in cooperation with the National Rifle Association Idaho State Fish and Game Department and the Franklin County Fish and Game Association. The objective is to train hunters in safe firearm use hunting care of game meat compass reading and other features. The program will be worked out with the local high school rifle lab. Oscar Almond is the instructor and county game association officers are sponsors. Dates will be announced later.

Transferred Forest Ranger Thomas Levy to Vernal District
Thomas H. Levy will transfer from the Preston ranger district of Cache National Forest to the Ashley National Forest Vernal ranger district in Utah effective Sept 1. A Utah State University forestry graduate, Levy has served on the Ogden and Preston districts and led the Randelph post from 1944 to 1950 before moving to Preston in 1950. Mrs. Levy and he have been active in civic and church groups during their Preston assignment. Glenn Keller will be in temporary charge until a replacement is chosen.

Four H Prizes Awarded at Bannock County Fair
At Bannock County Fair Swan Lake 4-H club members led with top honors. Imajean Hadley daughter of Mis and Mrs Willard Hadley won the show halter for largest gain on call, high points, and blue ribbons for blue ribbon group, sewing, cooking and freezing. Joan Merrill Patsy Merrill and others contributed to the county judging team with multiple blue rosettes and placements. Helen Henderson Berdean Henderson Elise Abbott Ann Thomas and Donna Rae Gibbs earned various blue ribbons, red ribbons, and medals in sewing cooking beef calf meat judging and demonstrations. The Swan Lake sewing club won first in the 4-H parade with their float.

Paul W. Johnson Joins Drug Co as Officer Recruit
Paul W. Johnson, recently released as a first lieutenant in the U S Army, has joined Johnson Drug Co. after graduating from the University of Utah pharmacy school in 1955. He received his second lieutenant commission in ROTC and reported to Fort Sill Oklahoma in August 1955. He completed officer training in field artillery and served with the third armored field artillery battalion in the second armored division in Mannheim Germany. During his time in Germany he acted as a forward observer and reconnaissance officer and later served as executive officer, touring much of Germany and nearby areas.

Preston High School to begin 1957 58 term Tuesday
The Preston High School opens its 1957 58 year on Tuesday at 9 am. Enrollment is expected near 400, up about 50 from last year. The annual fee remains 12 dollars, split into five for books and locker rental and seven for student activities. Four new instructors join to fill vacancies left by four retirees.
