Franklin County Fair Opens With 4 H Focus Next Week

The Franklin County Fair begins Monday with preliminary activities and judging mainly in the 4 H departments. Palmer Named City Judge in Preston Council Vote

Floyd Palmer, retired Preston resident and former justice of the peace, was named City Judge by the Preston City Council at the regular meeting. If he accepts, he will succeed Rhys Swainston, who has served as city clerk and judge. The council also approved a youth center license for Neil Talbot at the old Nelson building, with plans for soft drinks and pizza, plus potential pool and ping pong tables. Additional actions included sewer drain hookup discussion with Mel Burrup, sidewalk work with Eldon Tanner, radio log compliance for firemen, moving a light for the Rotary shelter, attendance at a Las Vegas safe cracking school, trenching for a KPST news wire, and other candidates for city judge.

County Fair Schedule Highlights a Week of 4H and Open Class Events

County fair runs August 21 to 23 with multiple displays and judging across East West and Center Fair Buildings. 4H clothing, canning, needlecraft, junior leadership, home economics and other exhibits feature in the daily schedule with public judging sessions and demonstrations.

Lewiston Sugar Factory Prepares for 40 Day Campaign

The Lewiston sugar factory, Utah's last operating plant of Amalga Sugar Co, plans a 40 day campaign starting around October 11. Beet harvests begin October 5 in Grace area, with general harvest about October 9. Harvested area drops to about 6200 acres from 8000 last year, with an expected 84000 tons vs 125000 tons prior year. Prospects look good for next year with higher prices. factory slated to operate again.

West Side School Announces Registration Dates and Fees

West Side high school will start registering seniors and juniors on August 23 between 9 a.m. and noon, with junior high on August 28. Grades 9–12 bring spring registration cards for library assistance. fees total 6.25 for activities plus 6.25 for yearbook and paper, 1.50 homemaking, 1.50 agriculture, 0.50 P.E., 2.50 class dues.

Albert Moser campground dedication named for local outdoorsman

The Cub River campsite in Cache National Forest is renamed Albert Moser campground in honor of Albert E. Moser of Dayton. A Friday 2 p.m. ceremony, supported by the district forest rangers, World War I Veterans, and Franklin County Commissioners, marks the dedication open to the public.
