Franklin County Fair Opens With Kid's Day Events

The Franklin County Fair begins today with Junior Day and 4 H and FFA livestock judging all day at the fair grounds. Friday features open class livestock and dairy day, 4 H horse club judging at Preston Rodeo Arena, and Saturday brings Farm Bureau Fun Day with an open class horse show and the Little Buckaroo Rodeo in the evening.

Farm Bureau Fun Day Saturday at Franklin County Fair

Robert O. Smith chairs Farm Bureau Fun Day tied to the Franklin County Fair. Lunch stands open all day with Joseph Moser Whitney and Wendell Long in charge of hamburgers and Eldon Bastian of beverages and snacks. At 11 am girls softball, prize drawings by Ron Baird, and races by Cleve Bodily follow community booths led by Mrs. Ariel Wreek. Weston, Oneida stake and region winner, faces Clifton Oxford in show matches.

Manager Told At Course Farewell Set

Halford named club manager at Preston Golf and Country Club as the board searches for four new golf pros for next year. Earl Schneiter who has been the course pro for six years and Mae Schneiter will be honored at a farewell party Tuesday evening with a bring your own steak dinner and Scotch Foursome play led by Demar Merrill and Wayne Doney.

New York Editor to Cover Franklin County Fair

Metropolitan Life editor Peter Cerf traveled from California to Preston to cover the Franklin County Fair after a photo from Mark Hammond of Preston reached New York. Hammond photographed the 4-H fashion show and plans more Thursday while noting his daughter Alayne swept 40 to 50 ribbons last year including the open class sewing sweepstakes.

Cubs To Stage 67 Olympics At Preston High Stadium

The annual Cub Scout Olympics, directed by George Allen, Franklin district Scout leader, will be held Thursday at 7 30 p m in Preston High School football stadium. The event features Cub Scouts their leaders and families with games and skills and is open to the public.

Kid's Rodeo Tops 1967 Franklin County Fair

All junior cowboys age 13 or younger or under 100 pounds from in and near Franklin county compete for champion at the 1967 Franklin County Fair in St Anthony Idaho. Allen and Rose producers direct the event to be held in the Preston Rodeo Arena Friday and Saturday at 8 30 p m with calf riding goat milking goat tying bare back riding and other events. Admission is 1 for adults and 50 cents for under 12. The Little Buckaroo Roundup drew a packed crowd at the North Bannock County Fair in Pocatello last weekend.

Writ Plea By Briggs Is Denied

Judge Francis Rasmussen denied a writ of habeas corpus for Arlo Gene Briggs who remains at Idaho State Hospital South awaiting mental competency to stand trial for his father Charles Briggs murder. Briggs’ attorney sought jury trial rights and alleged constitutional rights violations in Cache Valley arrest. The judge cited stipulated facts and medical reports and left Briggs to pursue an Idaho Supreme Court appeal.

Friday Dedication at Albert Moser Camp Ground

The Albert Moser Camp ground near Cub River Preston was dedicated last Friday with about 50 relatives and friends of the late Albert Moser in attendance. Ranger Ralph Roberts led the service, Roy Sorenson provided a biographical sketch, and Rolen Bastian gave the dedication prayer on behalf of the Franklin County Commissioners. The site honors Moser and his lifelong conservation ideals.

Third Ward Sustains Bishopric Sunday

Wayne R. Brown, principal at Jefferson school, was named bishop of Preston Third ward. Bishop Gambles, previously overseeing the ward, moved from Preston. Counselors named are Leo C. Geddes and DeVerl Baxter. Clerks are Lee Hendrickson and Niles Monson. The reorganization was directed by Pres. Carl A. Mortensen and the Oneida stake presidency.

Guards to Take Riot Training for National Guard

Pres tony National Guard unit and other guardsmen will undergo 32 hours of riot control training. Local guard leaders say the program will likely be held at Idaho State University in Pocatello, with the first session possibly scheduled for the upcoming weekend.

Ground Water Study Underway in Cache Valley

Ground water study begins in Cache Valley Utah and Idaho with USGS team led by Lewis Bjorklund. The project reviews existing data on wells irrigation municipal and industrial and aims to map water table depth groundwater relations. Over 2000 wells exist in the valley with officials from Cache and Franklin counties involved.

Memorial is completed with the flagpole and granite shaft installed. James McQueen notes county servicemen stories are needed for the vault base and carved inscriptions will include local veterans from the area with citations.
