East Side district holds annual school meeting and trustee election

The East Side class A school district No. 201 in Franklin county plans a Tuesday Sept 5 election with polls from 1 to 6 pm. Voting precincts include Franklin Fairview Whitney Mink Creek Banida Winder Riverdale Jefferson Mapleton and others with special precincts for Oneida Riverdale and Preston electors. Two trustees will be chosen for three year terms. nominees must come from each precinct and current terms for O D Robinson and DeRalph Perry expire. Eligibility requires Idaho electors, district residents, and either parent or guardian status or tax payment in the district.

Man Pleads Guilty To Fire Law Violation

Wendell Forsgren appeared before Probate Judge W. Paul Merrill on a charge of burning without a permit and violating state fire laws. He pleaded guilty and paid a $20 fine. State Fire Warden Bert Mahoney warned that this is a serious fire season and violators will be prosecuted.

Former Franklin County Residents Reunion Planned at Lakeview Park

A reunion for former Franklin County residents now living elsewhere is set for this Saturday at Lakeview Park in Nampa. Events include games at 4 and 7 pm, lunch by box lunch, dessert, and an 8 pm program. Attendees from Ada County and nearby areas are invited.

The annual West Side School District meeting and trustee election will be held Tuesday September 5. Trustees to be elected come from Oxford precinct and Dayton precinct. Incumbents Frank Chawkes Oxford and Waller Beatles Dayton seek three year terms. Nominating petitions must be filed at the superintendent's office six days before the election.

Potato Producers Warned About Eligibility Fees

Franklin County PMA committee chairman states all potato growers who met planting goals must pay eligibility fees two weeks before harvest or by Sept. 15 to qualify for price support. The notice names Auger as chair and covers growers in Franklin County.

Dial Telephones To Be Installed On West Side

Engineering is complete for a rural dial office on the west side of Franklin county to serve communities. Mountain States Telephone crews will start work soon on the dial equipment and trunk lines to Preston and west rural lines. Projected cost about 56000. The new dial office will connect west side subscribers without routing through Preston, while existing intercommunication remains for West side and Preston customers. Construction set to begin in September.

Idaho farmers and veterans tour showcases cattle and crops

Franklin County farmers and veterans attended a summer tour covering sugar beet side dressing nitrogen at George Alder farm and alfalfa hay on Paul Candle farm. Local Youth Wins Second in National Plastic Work Contest

Keith Allen, 19, son of Mr and Mrs Harold Allen, earned second prize in the 1950 industrial arts awards program run by Ford Motor Company. His plastic radio lamp with flowers and ferns is carved from clear plastic. Fall School Term To Begin Sept 5

According to Sept. W. H. Simmons the fall term of school will begin Tuesday Sept. 5 with registration for high school students on that day and regular classes for the grades. A general meeting for teachers is set the day before. Most teacher vacancies are filled, but some openings remain due to late cancellations. Farwigs Describe New Pest Plaguing Preston

County Agent Daniel Roberts warns of a new bug nicknamed the Farwig that resembles a cockroach with a large rear pincer. It feeds on greens and hides under boards or trash, entering homes as cold weather approaches. Benefit Ball Rescheduled After Rain Out For Macro

Idaho Antelope Permits Drawn for September Hunt

About 700 people from Franklin county and nearby areas were drawn from 6 700 applications for 500 permits to hunt antelope on September 10 and 11. Idaho Fish and Game will mail permits as quickly as possible. The largest request came for unit one on the Big Lost River drainage with 1428 requests for 125 permits.
