Dayton resident George Griffeth Jr dies after long illness
George Andrew Griffeth Jr., 80, of Dayton, died at home after a yearlong illness. He was born September 20, 1870 in Hyde Park, married Evelyn Pratt in 1901, lived in Fairview for 30 years, and in Dayton for 43 years working in farming. He served as ward bishop for six years, a home missionary for two missions, Sunday school officer and teacher, and made a mission to the southern states in 1898. He sat on the West Side school board for 18 years and helped establish the new high school building there.

Mrs Ellen Eliza Thomas Rasmussen 71 of 254 West First North died Saturday night July 29 after an extended illness. Born Salt Lake City Sept 4 1878 she was a daughter of James and Ellen Eliza Moore Wickens. She married Thomas M Thomas in Salt Lake City April 25 1898. he died in 1916. In 1934 she married J P Rasmussen in the Logan temple. Active in the LDS church she served as Oxford ward Primary president and Relief society teacher for 34 years and did genealogical work. Survived by husband of Preston and children Thelma Wayment Walter L Thomas Phyllis Larsen Marie Mills Genevieve Hawkes Evan M Thomas 35 grandchildren five great grandchildren and siblings Walter Wickens Irene Kuykendall Alice Lamp Eva Aird Heber Wickens. Members of the Southeastern Idaho Police Officers Association met in Preston last week with Sheriff E. L. Hansen presiding. Representatives from Franklin, Caribou, Bear Lake, Bannock and Bonneville counties attended, plus guests from three Utah counties. FBI agent Bill Williams gave a shooting demonstration. FBI members Gene Roberts and Pat Hamilton, plus Dutch Strahl and C. Newton, spoke. A resolution urged cooperation with the state's defense committee with equipment, manpower and full backing for citizens’ well being and safety.

Benefit game set tomorrow for Tracy Maero
A benefit baseball game is scheduled tomorrow evening to aid Tracy Maero, once a local star, who suffered severe financial hardship after a truck crash in Rawlins, Wye, last May. Maero remains out of work with a heavy leg cast after four costly operations. The Preston town team will face the West Side all stars in the fundraiser.

Kennington Rites Held For Tooele Native In Preston
Funeral services planned in Preston for Paul Humphreys Kennington thirty nine year old Tooele pharmacist and Preston resident who died suddenly in Preston while visiting family. He was born in Logan January 8 1921 and educated at Preston High School and Idaho State College. He leaves his father Ira L Kennington of Preston wife Nadine and daughter Paula and siblings Emerson Berny Kennington Charles Mack Hal Kennington and Cumorah Romney. Burial will be in Preston City Cemetery.
