The 1952 Franklin County fair premiums will be mailed this week to exhibitors. William Robinson, fair board chairman, announced that anyone wanting a premium list may obtain one by visiting the county agent office or by calling the office at fifty.
William Robinson announces a new county fair exhibit building with concrete floors to house most displays on the fair grounds for the 1952 Franklin County fair. Events begin Wednesday Aug 27 with 4-H and open class exhibits, followed by nutrition and dairy judging and a weekend of rodeos and dress revue.
Public invited to a colored slide exhibit at Preston High School auditorium on Friday August 15 at 8 p m Professor Bert V Allen of USAC will be present to guide viewing and discuss improving slide interest and composition Sponsors note 150 pictures from Franklin county residents will be shown
Preston High School announces the 1952 football season workouts begin next Wednesday under Coach Glen Oliverson. The schedule outlines uniform issuance by class and lists four home games including a homecoming tilt against Blackfoot and trips to Tooele and Montpelier.
The five cow Holstein herd owned by Mark V. Talbot of Talbot Holstein Farm Preston completed the test year with an average of 429 pounds of butterfat and 11 957 pounds of milk. The herd produced about 18 quarts daily per cow. Testing under the official Holstein registry program. Milking twice daily. testing supervised by University of Idaho with national Holstein support.
The Whitney ward boys softball team claimed Franklin stake championship with a 10 6 win over Mapleton then finished second in a Providence Utah tournament. They beat North Logan 27 3 then lost to Logan fourth ward 3 5 before beating Logan 12th 9 4 to take runner up. The county assessor led GOP votes with 2523, aiming for another term in November.
East Side school district 201 announces its annual meeting and trustee election for September 2. Nominations are due by 5 p.m. August 26, filed by five qualified electors. The trustee will represent the first zone east of State street and serve a three year term. Polls run 1 to 6 p.m. at Jefferson schoolhouse.
The Bear Lake rodeo begins Thursday August 21 in Montpelier with three nightly performances directed by J Ray Skinner of Intermountain Rodeo Inc. The rodeo parade starts at 6 p m, followed by the rodeo at the fair grounds, featuring announcer Jack Oakey and acts by Ken Boen Al Warrens string of horses and the Robinsons trampolines. The Caribou county posse leads events Thursday through Friday with the Montpelier Saddle Club performing Saturday night August 23. Sergeant Clyde Ashcroft of 278 West Oneida Preston has arrived in Japan and is stationed at Camp McGill near Yokohama. He serves as an amphibious tractor crewman in the 56th amphibious tank and tractor battalion and joined the Army in January 1951.
Lavon Talbot of Preston has purchased the Brown Swiss bull The Great Challenger 112243 from Henry Lisle Parker Hooper Utah. The report comes from Fred S. Idise secretary of the Brown Swiss Cattle Breeders association in Beloit Wisconsin.
Franklin County Republicans renominated the county commissioner from the third district on Tuesday. The incumbent received 1,286 votes out of 2,742 cast among three candidates.
The Franklin stake begins its conference Saturday with a 6 30 p m welfare meeting for ward and stake welfare workers in the stake house. Visiting Salt Lake City authorities John Longden and T C Stayner will attend.
A Preston city police officer defeated Sheriff Lee Hansen for the Republican nomination on Tuesday. The challenger led 1815 to 1049 in a decisive primary victory.
Wheat yields are poor in Franklin county due to a dry spring after a snowy winter. Fall wheat is weedy with low bushel totals, averaging four to five in some fields, about 10 in others, while spring wheat shows better results. Harvest extending four to five weeks.
Clifton cemetery maintenance district officials L. E. McDermott Vaughn Gailey and Orson Kofoed urge a 20 cent levy per $100 of property value to beautify and develop the cemetery. Election set for Friday August 22 from 1 to 6 p.m. at the ward chapel in Clifton.
A. Evan Bell ET2 son of Mr and Mrs Asael Bell arrived in San Francisco from the Korean area aboard the USS General Butner on July 28. On July 30 he received an honorable discharge after four years in the service. For the last year he served as an electronics technician on the destroyer USS Jenkins. Bell will spend the remainder of the summer in Preston with his parents.
West Side school district 202 will hold its annual election on Tuesday September 2 with polls at the Weston school house from 1 to 8 p.m. One trustee from Rose and one from Weston will be elected for three years. Candidate names due six days before the election. Eligible voters are Idaho residents in Linrose and Weston who are parents guardians property taxpayers or spouses.
William Albert Beckstead 87 died at his Preston home Tuesday morning after a long illness. Born May 14 1865 in South Jordan Utah he moved to Whitney at 24 and later to Preston in 1934. He was an LDS high priest and survived by six children, fifteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Funeral Friday at 1 pm in Oneida stake house with burial in Whitney cemetery.
Hasmunsen will be the Democratic candidate for county commissioner, second district, in November. Judy and Lani Petterborg of Boise visited the home of Mr and Mrs Emil Petterborg this week.
More than 3100 voters turned out in Franklin county for the primary, the largest in years. Sheriff race led Republican ballots while Orlando Rasmussen won the only Democratic county commissioner contest. LaRay Talbot defeated Sheriff Hansen for renomination by 1815 to 1049 and William Crane led GOP commissioner second district with 1061 votes.
The Weston ward chapel near the Weston public square will be dedicated Sunday at 8 p.m. Elder John Longden will deliver the dedicatory address and prayers. The two story building covers 17 000 square feet and cost 183 000 dollars with classrooms and a junior Sunday school room on the upper level.
