Long Parade and Rodeo Highlight Jubilee Week

Franklin County Jubilee closes with a lengthy parade and strong rodeo turnout. Parade organizers report 50 entries and a ten minute delay at First North and State street. Logan City wins Grand Sweepstakes with Cache Chamber. Lions Club marching corps top finishers include Preston High Phi Dels and Highland Lassies. Jet bomber flyovers salute the event while committee heads pledge plans for next year.

Preston Rodeo to Hire Producer and Set August Dates

The Preston Rodeo committee approved rehiring D A Swanny Kerby to produce the show for next year and set August 1 2 3 dates. They also approved Monte Young shows for next year. This year’s total rodeo purse was 447.50 with winners including Jim Steen Merle Lofthouse Bud Kerby Neal Arave and others across saddle bronc bareback bull riding and steer wrestling events.

Improvement Reaches Preston City Fair Area

Franklin County Fair board and property owners in Preston install curb gutter and sidewalk on the south frontage of the Franklin County Fair grounds to beautify the area adjoining Preston City Park. William Robinson reports black topping around fair buildings will cut dust. new west fence to be painted. additional exhibit cages planned for poultry and rabbit buildings.

Four County Water Organization Forms To Promote Bear River Development

A four county water users association named the Idaho Bear River Water Users Association was formed to push Bear River development. Franklin Oneida Bear Lake and Caribou counties named representatives. Lester P. Sears heads the group. The Idaho Water Resources board received a resolution seeking a five year relicensing of the Oneida Station Power plant to align with Bear River project funding timelines.

Youth Injured In River Near Gas Ranch

Claude Smith 15 of Riverdale suffered a broken neck and paralysis after diving into the river hole near the bridge by the Gas ranch. He was pulled from the water and taken to LDS hospital Salt Lake City after a Preston evaluation.

Preston merchants plan Back To School promotion

The Preston chamber of commerce merchants committee will hold a Back To School promotion next week. Stores including appliance, furniture, auto and jewelry dealers will feature promotional material. A special school section of the Citizen will run next week. US Savings Bond sales in Franklin county for June totaled 2861, with year to date 24798 toward a 67320 goal, 36.8 percent reached.

Burglar Strikes Foss Furniture Store Night Burglary

Police say a thief or thieves burglarized Foss Furniture Store between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning taking more than 270 dollars. Detectives note similarities to a Preston high school and Preston Lumber Company case, suspecting the same culprit. Entry was through a skylight, attic, second floor, then office. safe opened with hammer and pry bar. exit via the rear. Frank Foss reported the loss.
