Franklin county villages contest council seats

Franklin County villages held elections Tuesday to choose men for village councils for the next two years. In Franklin 26 ballots were cast with Samuel J. Handy and Percy Gibson re-elected receiving 33 and 22 votes. eight write-ins for Victor Jensen, two for Cyril Lowe, and one for Bart Hill. The board is now headed by Dennis Lowe, with Harley Lowe and Argel continued on page D.

Preston High Orchestra Shines at State Festival Idaho Falls

Preston High School musicians returned from the Idaho Falls state festival with superior ratings across orchestra choir and girls glee club. Soloists Dan Pack LaRee Christensen Mariha Benson Walton Muir Lynn Speckstead Carol Jean Stocks Lois Miles Kent Johnson earned top marks. various ensembles also rated I or II. The Preston orchestra, led by John Manning, earned a first division rating and has won three consecutive state first-place awards.

Preston Pond Bond Vote Passes Water Extension Plan

Voters approve a 370000 bond issue to fund water system improvements and extensions in Preston. The election, combined with municipal races, saw about 1000 participating, with 43 votes against the bond, 24 of which were in each precinct. Mayor Sherwit Webb praised the result and promised cost control during the project.

Dayton Ward to Sponsor Wrestling for Church Fund

Dayton ward will sponsor a professional wrestling card at the Preston high school gym on May 1 to raise funds for a new church building. The lineup includes two small wrestlers Mario Sanchez and Mighty Schultz in a two out of three falls match, a 500-pound bear versus Jacques Dubois, and Bill Melby versus Danny Ferrara in the heavyweight bout. All proceeds support the Dayton church building fund.

Thompson To Get Training At ROTC Camp

Cadet Dennis L. Thompson son of Mr and Mrs Ivan Thompson will join about 14500 reserve officers in an ROTC advanced course. He reports June 20 to one of 13 installations for six weeks of summer training between his junior and senior years. Completion may lead to appointment in the Army reserves or active Army.
