Ensign A E Raether, officer in charge at the new semi Main U S Navy Recruiting station at Pocatello, visited the Preston sub station on an inspection trip. He said everything was ship shape and praised local cooperation. He urged enlistment of men 17 to 50 and women for WAVES and SPARS to replace sea duty personnel.

County R R Supervisor r D Crawford announced Franklin county has qualified for a larger farm enlargement program and tenant purchase funds. The aid aims to create economic farm units by acquiring more land, refinancing debts up to half, and financing building repairs to improve farm conditions for eligible small and family-type farms. Eligible borrowers must intend a 12 month or longer term and be owners or contracts purchasers of a farm too small to be profitable, with a need for additional land.

Preston Officer Killed In Plane Crash
2nd Lieutenant James Theras Jensen 27 of Preston died when a B 25 bomber crashed into Great Salt Lake 47 miles west of Brigham City. Jensen a 1935 Preston High School graduate served in the US Army Air Corps and married Rita Victor in 1941. Funeral arrangements to be announced.

The twenty first annual graduation exercises of the Franklin county LDS Seminary will be Sunday evening May 72 at 8 p.m. in the Franklin Stake tabernacle. One hundred and four students will graduate. Program includes scripture reading, musical numbers, solos, and the presentation of graduates and diplomas. Faculty are Ernest Eberhard Jr and Alvin Harris with a board led by Paul Wynn.

Lynn Lawrence announces the Worley Cup vocal contest will be held Wednesday night at 8 in Preston high school auditorium. Originated by the late Dr. Worley who offered a silver loving cup to the best soloist. Theo Petterborg now heads the project and will award his second cup. Professor Walter Welts of USAC will judge. The local PTA announces a summer clinic for incoming kindergartners and first-year students.
