Dr. Leo Hawkes was selected Monday evening to head the Jaycee organization, succeeding John A Webber. Four board members were elected: Max Norton, Herman Richards, Keith Elwell, and Allen Fisher. Keith Carson became vice president, Max Norton vice president, Herman Richards secretary, Mel Burrup treasurer. Reports on conventions and July Fourth celebration were given, and Idaho Gov. Robins accepted an invitation to attend the governor's luncheon on May 10.

Birthday sale marks first year for Preston Reliance store
The Preston Reliance store announces its first birthday sale with a storewide closeout of household items. Proprietors Hebe Albaugh and Tom Albaugh opened April 6, 1946 in the bank building on Oreida Street. Albaugh is a war veteran. Sheets previously supervised transport for Idaho Refining in Pocatello. Anxious to be their own bosses, they chose Preston for its future potential. Two advertisements for the birthday sale appear in this issue.

Extension Leader Tours County With Boys State
E F Rinehart of Boise toured the county Saturday with 21 county 4 H members. He observed 22 calves and praised the club for its yearlong projects. Calves will be exhibited and sold at the Idaho Falls Fat Stock Show in May with related shows in June and November. Daniel Roberts, county agent, reported the visit to Don Carter Heref ranch and noted Homer Wingers from Wendell scored high with 185 points and received a beef show halter.

Bryce Campbell Die? at Veterans Hospital Weston Idaho
Funeral services are held today in Weston for Bryce Olsen Campbell 22 a World War II veteran who died Saturday at a veterans hospital in Salt Lake City after a short illness. He was born in Weston August 28, 1924 and served in the artillery with a serious Okinawa wound. He married Bonnie Larsen in the Logan temple and remained in Weston. Surviving are his wife his parents two brothers and three sisters. Burial is in Weston cemetery.

In Preston on Tuesday 1263 voters cast ballots to elect Ernest Eberhard Jr mayor for two years and to choose a new city clerk after 12 years. Eberhard edged Tet Re Bowden by a narrow margin as Alfred Andreasen upset C L Roy Greaves for ferry clerk. Council winners were Willliames Davis Earl Goaslind Roy Andreasen and Donald Elewell led the field with 758 votes while Lillie E Benson won city treasurer with 1181.

University Man To Give Lecture Monday Evening
Ross Holland extension director at the University of Utah will present an illustrated lecture titled Know Your Neighbor at the Preston High School auditorium Monday at 8 p.m. Sponsored by the city's parent teacher council, the event is free to the public. Films will cover Latin American peoples and countries seen in Holland's travels. He has visited 16 foreign countries, mostly in South America, and has served as a LDS missionary in Argentina. During World War II he worked with army intelligence. He is brother of Yale Holland, formerly connected with the local high school agricultural department.
