Preston's Oldest Grocer Greaves Ends 50-Year Career

Preston merchant Don Greaves owner of Central Market retires ending a half century in business. He began as a 17-year-old order out boy, rebuilt after a 1949 fire, and ran the market with assistant Dale Christensen. Greaves and his family have long served community and church programs.

Prenatal Clinic Set To Start May 3 At Franklin County Hospital

Franklin County Hospital announces a six week pre-natal clinic for prospective parents starting May 3. Instructor Connie Maughan will lead sessions at 6 30 p m in the hospital classroom. Prospective attendees are urged to register at the hospital or contact the instructor. the course is a community service.

City-wide Spring Cleanup Encouraged in Preston

Preston residents are reminded they have until next Tuesday to join the city wide cleanup. Refuse and limbs should be placed at the gutters for city sanitation crews to haul away. City spokesmen praise the effort and commend volunteers for cleaning and fixing up.

No Dinner There Will Be No Senior Citizens Dinner

A senior citizens group announces no dinner this Saturday. A spokesman says the group will still meet for a dance on Saturdays with the next date listed as April 40.

Board Cuts Back On Extra Activities In District Five

East Side School board approves a new activity philosophy urged by district leaders. It plans to limit junior high sports to set game and tournament counts and move some ninth graders to JV. High school sports will be cut 10 percent for 1978-79 with activities shifted to Fridays Saturdays or after school.

Eastside board rejects rehiring of coach Larry Matthews

The Eastside School District board voted unanimously not to renew basketball coach Larry Matthews contract for a third year after evaluating non tenured staff. Superintendent Dr. Orson Bowler said written notice will be given within 48 hours with no reason provided.

Franklin County forms Weed Control Committee stakes plan

County Commissioner Bob Hull and Franklin County agents organized a Franklin County Weed Committee at the courthouse. They outlined noxious weed threats, spread by feed and equipment, and urged everyone to participate in weed control and careful hay imports. An executive board will be appointed soon and full cooperation is the goal.
