Franklin County volunteers battled about a dozen fires over Saturday and Sunday including threats to homes in Clifton and the Hobbs residence on Bear River hill. Fires ignited by weed burning and wind burned fields, sheds, and brush as crews worked through the weekend with Department of Lands support and discussions on earlier open burning prohibitions.
Roy Larsen announces Deseret Industries bought the Central Market building to move from 10 North State Street this summer. Aimed at expanding operations and employing the handicapped, the project includes remodeling for aBouque style image and local employment growth with about 46 current positions at Preston and Logan stores. A senior citizen dinner is set for Saturday at the American Legion Hall, noon, followed by an 8 pm dance with the Moonlighters.
Hale warns the clinic may close if taxes stay high while officials discuss rent and tax assessments. The board approves a seven percent raise for elected officials, with deputies noting budget limits, and reviews building codes, permits, and the Roosevelt Herd District hearing.
Franklin County publishes its annual report in The Citizen showing a cash balance of 670434.38 and taxes receivable of 283521.18. The report notes last year's budget of 1301684 with expenditures of 969233.96 and salaries accounting for 38 percent.

Dr. Orson Bowler said there would be no large salary increases this year and that a five percent rise is hoped for, though not certain, in the Eastside School District.
