Queen Contest Set for June 18 in Preston Night Rodeo

Bob Mattson of the Chamber rodeo committee announced the Queen Contest will be held June 18 with drawings and prizes for the winner. Eligible contestants come from Cache Valley and nearby areas. The Franklin County Sheriff’s Auxiliary will sponsor the show and this mirrors prior years. Also noted is a Senior Citizens dinner this Saturday April 30 at noon at the American Legion Hall followed by an 8 pm dance for area seniors.

First Step Toward Gravity Flow Irrigation Across Preston Area

Farmers in the Preston area held an information meeting to gauge interest in a large gravity flow sprinkler system. The plan would cover 13 000 to 20 000 acres stretching toward Lewiston Utah, feeding from Glendale Foster Lamont and Johnson reservoirs. RCandD head Stephen Hinckley cautioned against spending $267 000 on canal lining and urged revision of water rights before proceeding.
