Idaho Winter Wheat Prospects Rise to 14.872 Million Bushels
Idaho forecasts on April 1 project winter wheat at 14,872,000 bushels, up 22 percent from 1943 and 7 percent above the 10 year average. Although snow-cover persists in Eastern Idaho and March weather was unfavorable in parts, growers report fair to good conditions with potential losses from winter kill limited. The gain stems from a larger planted area as yield per acre stays near 1943 levels, while March brought cool dry winds and delayed farm work and topsoil dried out. Irrigation runoff outlook remained unimproved, with some areas potentially short of water later in the season.
