Imported Labor Will Aid Franklin County Sugar Beet Crop
About half of Franklin County's sugar beet crop is planted with more fields ready in a week or ten days if weather allows. Growers plan at least 7 000 acres, up 18 percent from 1943, with 180 Mexican laborers due by May 15 and 30 Japanese arriving this week. The WFA and local officials arranged the labor, aiding beet growers amid war crop demands and higher prices.
