School board adopts next year salary schedule at meeting
At a Monday April meeting the Eastside district approved a new salary schedule for teachers with bachelor or master degrees. Beginning pay is 3400 and experience limits rise to 12 years. The plan requires 307121 to fund, aided by a 22 million public schools appropriation. A special meeting April 22 will finalize budget and tax levies. The board also ordered two new Bluebird buses with heater upgrades.

West Side High Sets April 27 Play Curtain Going Up

Pauline Nash of Preston Wins Speaking Contest
Miss Pauline Nash a freshman at Idaho State College Pocatello won the sixth annual Paul M Hill memorial sales speaking contest. From 53 entrants she was one of four and the only girl to receive the trophy. Nash is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Weldon A Nash and majors in secretarial science.

Former Preston Native RB Rowell Dies in Salt Lake City
Rutherford Reginald Rowell, born May 25 1898 in Preston Kansas, died of a heart attack Thursday in a Salt Lake City hospital. He lived in Salt Lake City since 1948 as a research engineer for Utah Power and Light Co. Survivors include his wife Anna Marie Rowell a daughter Clara Marie Bleake and a son Robert Rowell. He served in World War I and was a Mason and Elk. He led Preston Rotary and chaired the Preston Chamber of Commerce and Idaho State Chamber of Commerce.
