Webster and Maughan led in individual scoring with a 668 three line series at the Elks state bowling tournament held in Burley on March 24. Competing against 59 bowlers, the effort earned Webb an electric living room clock as the prize. Three teams from Elks Lodge 1670 Preston, sponsored by McCune Motor Co Cranney Chevrolet Co and Corner Cafe, entered the event with Maughan a member.

Dollinger to Meet Preston Officials Next Monday

Herbert B. Bud Young 67 died in a Salt Lake City hospital after a long illness from cancer. Fifteen High Schools to Compete in District Music Festival
About 1200 to 1500 high school musicians from 15 schools will compete in Preston over Friday and Saturday in vocal and instrumental contests as part of the fifth district music festival. Soloists, ensembles, and large groups will perform with judges from Utah and Idaho colleges. Winners aim for division one rating to qualify for the Idaho state festival in Burley on April 26 and 27.

A Wednesday afternoon fire at the E. O. Bergeson farm north of Dayton destroyed four to five tons of baled straw. The local fire department answered the call. the blaze reportedly started when sparks from burning trash blew into the straw. No other damage was reported.

County Agent Urges Soil Testing Before Fertilizing
Hyrum G. Johnson, assistant county agent, urges farmers to use soil tests to tailor fertilizer needs. Soil testing can save money by preventing ineffective fertilizer and results last three to four years. Envelopes for samples are at the county extension office in Franklin County Courthouse basement. samples must be air dried and brought in advance. The service, free to Franklin County landowners, is offered by the University of Idaho extension service and the Department of Agriculture.
