West Side High student wins DAV essay prize in Salt Lake City

Frances Atkinson, a senior at West Side High, won the Disabled American Veterans essay contest national award and received a 2000 check. May Burns of Salt Lake City also won 1000, with George Mylotie and a school prize of 250 each. Presentation by William F. McConnell at the KSL studio in Salt Lake City occurred April 6 at 1 30 p m with a tape recording.

Franklin Girls In Car Accident Near School

Two girls in Franklin were involved when a car driven by Melba Nae rolled over near Sool. Elaine Doney sustained two broken ribs while Melba Nae suffered shock and severe bruises. The other passengers, Elaine Fitzen and Patricia Hampton, were praised and returned to school on Wednesday.

Snow Survey Confirms Utah Mountain Water Content Near Normal

Federal state cooperative snow surveys and water supply forecasts show mountain snowpack around Garden City Emigrant Franklin basin and Monte Cristo near normal levels as of April 1. Garden City summit depth 65.4 inches water 19.5 pct near 100 pct normal in 23 years. Emigrant depth 76.7 inches water 22.1 pct 87.7 pct normal. Franklin basin snow depth 68.1 inches water 23.3 pct. Monte Cristo 12.4 inches water.

Preston High Choir Earns Superior Ratings at Music Festival

More than 90 students from Preston High, directed by Lynn Bright and Lyle Shipley, earned superior ratings at the fifth district music festival in Malad. The choir achieved 12th consecutive superior marks, with the orchestra, band, boys chorus, and girls glees club also scoring highly in sight reading and solo ratings.

Preston Future Farmers Win First In South Idaho Crops Contest

The Preston Future Farmers win first place in the South Idaho crops and seeds contest at Idaho State College. Teams from southern Idaho schools competed to identify 25 weed plants 25 weed seeds 20 crop plants and 20 crop seeds and judge samples of red clover white wheat barley. The Preston team Clair Rosen Bud Keller Ramon Wright scored 321.7 of 333 with Oakley second and Montpelier fourth.

Easter egg hunt sponsored by Chamber and JCs on Saturday

The annual Easter egg hunt in the city park begins at 2 30 PM sponsored by the Press Chamber of Commerce and Jaycees. Merrill is hunt chairman. Easter Lilies Sale To Benefit Crippled Children

Preston Future Homemakers of America chapter will sell miniature Easter lilies in downtown Preston on Saturday. Proceeds aid the Crippled Children's Society of Idaho and its Easter Seal program supporting habilitation for cerebral palsy and other disabilities. The funds fund therapy, transportation to medical centers, equipment, and related services for Idaho children. Continued on page 4.
