Grand Old Idahoan Byrd Trego Dies in Blackfoot
Byrd Trego a leading Blackfoot figure and longtime proponent of Idaho progress died in Blackfoot on Tuesday morning just months before his 89th birthday. Born in 1868 in Iowa he moved to Blackfoot in 1885 and started the town's first daily newspaper in 1927 then the Republican later the Daily Bulletin. The Daily Bulletin praised his lasting interest in Blackfoot's future and his status as Idaho under one man chamber of commerce.

Utah Man Killed On Highway Project North of Dayton
Reed W. Bailey a 21 year old Wellsville Utah man died Tuesday afternoon while working on a highway construction project about half a mile north of Dayton. A carry-all wheel ran over his head after Bailey attempted to move aside as the truck driven by Elton D. Eames swerved. Investigating officers ruled the driver not negligent. Bailey was born October 4 1935 in Wellsville and graduated from South Cache High School in Hy rum in 1954. Funeral services set for 2 p.m. tomorrow at the Wellsville LDS Tabernacle.

The Preston Citizen tallying judge Wayne Merrill and Vaughn Drury announced eight top winners from a pool of sixteen in the subscription contest. Joyce Poulsen led with 410000 votes winning a portable television from A and L Furniture. John Cregg Lawson took second with 348000 votes for a Schwinn bicycle from Ern's. Roberts Wood earned a bicycle with 277000 votes. Cleone Baxter won a record player with 284000 votes. Roy Long and Gary Erickson received wristwatches. Linda Baxter won a portable radio and Tenna Morrison at clock radio, both bought from local stores. Michael Olsen of Weston was close behind with 1000 fewer votes.
