Myrna Smith 15 Dies After Long Illness
Myrna Smith aged 15 died Sunday at the family home after an extended illness. Funeral services were held Wednesday in the Franklin stake house with Bishop C A Lundgren officiating. She was born September 28, 1937 in Logan to Orval J. and Letha Wheeler Smith and lived in Preston all her life. She was a Preston High School sophomore active in the LDS church and 4 H. Surviving are her parents two sisters Charlyne and Tamara and grandparents Joseph Smith of Preston and Jane Wheeler of Lewiston. Burial was in Preston cemetery under Webb mortuary direction.

Idaho Gas Development Inc this week announced the acquisition of 8 000 acres of potential gas lands in Franklin county. Ralph Arnold geologist recommends drilling the first of four test wells on the Weston structure ten miles west of Preston. Work will start soon and engineers see potential for commercial gas delivery to surrounding communities.

Tractor Mishap Kills Worker Near Clifton
Rio Giarino, 65, of Clifton died after a farm accident while working with James Tasso Jr. at a post-hole drill when a drive shaft snapped and struck him above the left eye. He was born in 1887 in Baldissero Canavese Italy and came to Clifton in 1920. A World War I veteran, he had lived with the Tasso family in Rock Springs, Wyoming, before the fatal incident.

Preston Leads Idaho Safety Contest With Low Accident Rate

Airman Val Smith On Board B 29 Crash Lands in Honolulu
Eleven crewmen including Airman Val Smith of Preston narrowly escaped serious injury when their B 29 crash landed at Hickam field Hawaii after a landing gear failed to operate. The plane from Travis AFB California circled the field then pancaked on the runway during gear trouble. Airman Smith is son of Mr and Mrs Paul K Smith his wife Monta Rae Rallison remains in Preston with her parents while her husband serves overseas.
