Hurricane Edith Rakes Hispaniola Critical Storm
Edith the season's fifth and fiercest tropical storm crossed Hispaniola first, then into the Atlantic. Two Plucked From Raff Sharks Eat Wife of One
In the Gulf off Tampa a fishing boat sank leaving Kenneth Crosby and James Dumas adrift for two days. A helicopter rescued Crosby while Dumas’s wife Ann Dumas, 27, died on the raft as sharks swarmed around the body. The couple and others were plucked from a makeshift raft about 80 miles west of Tampa.
