Sonic Boom May Divert New Planes
Federal Aviation Administrator N E Halaby warned that sonic booms from upcoming faster-than-sound airliners could force rerouting of flights if no new solutions emerge. He noted extreme uneconomicality of such measures and said planes may need to climb to about 42,000 feet to limit ground booms, with first test lists possible around 1967 and sonic tickets by 1971–72.
