Coastal plan urges ecology focus in decade long harbor expansions

A regional coastal planning document urges ecological safeguards over ten years. It contemplates extending Long Beach Harbor Marina, adding small craft berths at Dana Point, minor refinements at Albitos Bay and Marina del Rey, and new moorings at Santa Catalina Island while deferring Cabrillo Marina. It also promotes dry storage near Public launching Cavilities Itney and Warriors, a statewide coastal trails system, and a bicycle rail in Los Angeles and Long Beach harbors. It stresses preventing dredging or filling of coastal wetlands and keeping Pacific Coast Highway two lanes in Central California for recreation.

New housing law seen as peril to development plans

A new housing law is described as risky for local development with Long Teach to gain a large funding boost. City projects would receive 1.8 million yearly, rising to 1.5 million first year, 3.1 million second year, and 5 million third year, funding neighborhood development, Poly High area work, open spaces, home rehab loans, and centers. The measure also allows private developers to finance low-interest apartment loans and rent subsidies for low income tenants, limiting occupancy to 20 percent.
