Pension reforms law shields workers retirement rights now
Ford signs a sweeping pension reform law affecting about 36 million people and nearly 2 million private and welfare plans. It guarantees that long service workers won’t lose pension rights when changing jobs or employers fail, with new Pension Benefit Guarantee Corporation insurance and stricter funding rules to curb fund depletion and abuses. The measure expands access to personal retirement plans, sets survivor benefits, and requires disclosures while allowing vesting and phased participation for many workers. some plans or church plans may be excluded.
