Senator Jatin McClellan Dies at 81 in Arkansas
Sen. Jatin L. McClellan, longtime Arkansas Democrat and powerful investigator of labor unions and organized crime, died in his sleep at 81 in Little Rock. He served 35 years in the Senate, chaired the Appropriations Committee since 1972, and previously led the permanent Investigations Subcommittee. His aides found him at about 6:30 a.m. in his apartment. he had announced retirement last week, saying health but not his decision.

Teen Bandits Stage 2 Stickups on Bikes and Flee
In An Ysidro two teen bicyclists robbed two groups of visiting diners and a Fountain Valley man after flashing revolvers. The first group of four visitors from Santa Barbara Hayward and Castro Valley lost about 12 dollars at a restaurant before the youths fled on bicycles. Fifteen minutes later Jose E Lopez 32 of Fountain Valley reported one teen held a gun to his face and he handed over about 280 dollars before pursuing the culprits. Lopez said he struck one cyclist with his car as they escaped. Local police described both incidents as occurring Friday night.

In Sunnyvale Machinists Local 508 members approved a three year package at Lockheed Missiles and Space, easing a 49 day strike that involved about 13 000 members at three Southern California plants and a Marietta, Georgia facility. Spokesman George Mulhern said most workers were back to work with 60 to 95 percent back on site, while international union officials called the move illegal and claimed the walkout remained active. The deal includes a 13 percent raise over three years and seniority provisions. about 4,500 area Lockheed employees are union represented.
