Kahane hunger strike over kosher meals at Allenwood prison

Fromme jurors fear reprisals after verdict

Jurors who convicted Lynette Fromme of attempting to kill the president remained tightlipped on Thanksgiving Day amid fears of retaliation by remnants of the Charles Manson family. Fromme, 27, was found guilty Wednesday night and the eight women and four men who decided the case were heavily guarded by deputy marshals.

Denial of Quake Risk Highlighted by Psychiatrist

In San Francisco a psychiatrist warned of public denial about earthquakes. A sidewalk poll of 135 people found 90 percent doubt they will experience a quake and 45 percent would pray during a major event. Rigney urged more public discussion.

British editor is slain in London IRA suspected in killing

Ross McWhirter coeditor of the Guinness Book of World Records was shot at his Enfield home as police name the Irish Republican Army as the likely executioner. Home Secretary Roy Jenkins warned the killing could signal a new form of terrorism in Britain and urged firm action while condemning the act. Rosemary McWhirter arrived home shortly after the attack.
