Electrostatic autopilot aids small aircraft flight
Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory researchers led by Maynard Hill unveiled an electrostatic autopilot that stabilizes radio controlled aircraft by following earth horizon voltage layers. The thin three ounce device, costing about 50 dollars, uses sensor patches and differential voltmeters to maintain altitude and enable smooth takeoffs and landings.
