Rejuggle tax reform bill to gain OK
Governor Reagan and Assembly Speaker Bob Moretti push a $14 billion tax reform package aimed at boosting school funding and urban relief. The plan lowers an exemption to raise $32 million for big city schools, adds $103 million by dropping motor vehicle fee hikes, and targets $332 million yearly for local schools. Critics say it shifts burden to the poor with a sales tax raise, while Moretti touts it as California’s finest school bill. Senate support remains uncertain as lawmakers close in on a Dec 1 adjournment.
