Vast park planned in Los Angeles County
United Press International notes a vast urban park in the Santa Monica Mountains announced by state and federal officials. Rep. Alphonzo Bell and State Parks Director Wil liam P. Mott say the 4,000 acre preserve could open with temporary facilities by July 1973 and may grow to 19,000 acres. The bargain sale of 1,700 acres from two developers made the project possible, linking with 2,424 acres already state owned, ending a decade long conservation effort west of the San Diego Freeway and near Topanga Canyon. The land, appraised at 5 million, was sold to California for 19 million on November 4.
