Diem Kin Handed to Junta After Hue Asylum Request

Neo Dinh Can, leader in central Vietnam, turned over to South Vietnam’s revolutionary government after seeking asylum at the Hue U S consulate. U S officials reportedly secured assurances that Can would not be lynched and would receive due process. Diem and Ngo Dinh Nhu were captured by rebels the prior Saturday, with the revolutionary government saying they died by their own hand, though rumors of assassination spread in Saigon.

Weather front stalls near Santa Barbara County to strike later

The weatherman said a stalled front north of Santa Barbara County was moving south and expected to hit the Long Beach area late tonight. Rainfall around one half inch was forecast with snow in the mountains above 7,000 feet.

Court Limits Picketing in Phone Strike

A Los Angeles Superior Court judge issued a temp restraining order in the 18 day old telephone walkout, restricting picketing by striking workers. Pickets are barred from following workers home or making threats, limited to three at large plant entrances and two at small entrances, with 19 feet between marchers. The order covers Los Angeles Santa Barbara Ventura Oxnard and Tulare counties, as federal mediators continue efforts to break the deadlock between the company and the union.

Missing Child Found After Cold Night Near Nardin

A 3-year-old girl, Julie Ann Hagadone, was found about 7:03 am six miles northwest of Cin in Big Horn County. She had spent a cold night outdoors, wrapped in a blanket, and was taken to Big Horn County Memorial Hospital for observation. Sheriff Ray Riley said an investigation was underway. The child, unmolested, was reported missing after her red sweatshirt socks and shoes were lost during the night. About 100 people participated in the search led by her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Hanacone.

Security Chief Otepka Fired by State Department

The State Department dismissed security chief Otepka after suspension since Sept 23 amid charges of unbecoming conduct and supplying confidential information to the Senate Internal Security Subcommittee. Can't Permit Gis to Be Blockaded, Rusk Tells Reds

Washington reports the State Department rejected Russia's claim to set rules for military travel to West Berlin calling the latest blockade clearly their initiative. Secretary of State Rusk told the Senate Foreign Relations Committee the blockade cannot be permitted and noted no misunderstanding as in prior events. Berlin reporting says a U S convoy of 44 men was halted at Marienborn by armoured cars and armed guards while French and British convoys were allowed to pass, signaling Western allies to respond with protests and coordinated action.
