California Lowers Voter Residency to 30 Days Statewide
California's Supreme Court ruled to trim the voter residency to 30 days for precinct county and state elections starting in November. The decision also lets voters register up to 20 days before an election while closing registration lists on the 29th day prior. The ruling follows a U.S. Supreme Court precedent and cites voting as a fundamental right. Legal challengers include Jeffrey Young and Ernestine Isaac with support from League of Women Voters and civil rights groups.
