Agnew Attacks Congress at Governors Conference
Vice President Spiro Agnew blasted Congress for stalling on Nixon proposals to revamp revenue sharing welfare reform and executive branch reorganization at the White Sulphur Springs gathering. He singled out the House Ways and Means and Senate Finance Committees as roadblocks and urged Democratic presidential hopefuls to support reform efforts. The conference endorsed Nixon and Agnew for reelection and discussed campaign financing with former Attorney General John Mitchell. An aide noted Mitchell spoke with governors about disclosure laws, while Ronald Reagan met separately with California leaders. The next meeting is set for Dec 9 in Scottsdale.
