House Unit Hits AF Waste in Land Use Debate
The House Interior Committee faulted the Air Force for wasteful land use and urged Congress to require approval for public land withdrawals. It criticized a Navy decision to use 2 million acres of the Tonopah Range in Nevada and noted a claimed 5.7 million acres held by the Air Force not needed for bombing. The panel pressed for coordinated internal surveys by Defense, Army, and Navy before further withdrawals, while preserving hunting and fishing access for adjacent communities and veterans.
