Ford joins GM seeks delay and exemptions on 1975 antipollution rules
Ford Motor Co says it will ask Congress to amend the 1970 Clean Air Act to allow a two year extension for interim 1975 model year antipollution standards and argues the company cannot safely or feasibly install catalytic converters nationwide. GM also seeks a one year delay, while Ford requests nationwide California style heightened limits only in 1995 models. Ford urges EPA to extend the emissions deadline by one year for hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide. The company criticizes the impact of strict rules on 1975 models and cites testing needs for catalytic converter systems.
