California Court Rules Pope Liable Over Saint Bernard Pup
Alameda County Superior Court awarded William Sheffield a $428.50 default judgment against Pope Paul VI after a six year case claiming the Roman Catholic Church and its properties are under California jurisdiction. Sheffield deposited $60 for a St Bernard pup and paid travel costs but the monk said all pups died and refunds were refused. The case questions California jurisdiction over the Holy See and Pope Paul VI. If unpaid, collectors may target Peter's Peace church groups supporting the Pope.

California Senate approves public school bargaining bill

It creates a five member state board, limits bargaining to wages hours and working conditions, and allows agency shops, with July 1976 start. Governor Brown opposes piecemeal bargaining and resistant to broader inclusion.
