Army Hearing Probes Transsexual Marriage Policy
Speed Marie Sode, a 22 year old Army private, faces withdrawal hearings over a marriage to a person identified as Linda Bowers and later Kristian von Hoffburg. The case raises if the Army can tolerate a soldier married to a transsexual amid contested sexual identity questions. Capt. Higginbotham notes no Army policy on transsexuality while witnesses describe the couple and Sode’s heterosexual self perception.
