Probe Ordered into UMW Election After Yablonski Murders
Labor Secretary Georges P. Shultz ordered a fact finding inquiry into the United Mine Workers of America election after UMW official Joseph A. Yablonski and his wife and daughter were found murdered. UMW general counsel Edward L. Carey said the union would pay a $50,000 reward for information leading to convictions. The killings followed a fierce campaign in which Yablonski lost to Tony Boyle.
