Reagan vetoes contraceptives bill for sexually active youths
Sacramento Governor Ronald Reagan vetoed a Beilenson measure allowing doctors to provide birth control devices to sexually active minors without parental consent. He warned the proposal intrudes on parental prerogatives, could erode family authority, and might tacitly endorse teen sexual activity. The veto follows similar actions in prior years while other bills were sent back unsigned.
