Air Force plans 28 million Douglas DC-10 tanker deal
The Pentagon estimates a DC-10 based tanker freighter will cost about 28 million and could equip 25 to 100 aircraft over five years. The modified DC-10 will extend global reach, refuel fighters and strategic transports, and replace separate tanker and cargo planes with a single aircraft type. Douglas executives say the move avoids development costs while expanding the Air Force fleet.
