Special to the News from Little Rock dated March 13 reports the Iron Mountain railroad has laid off claim agents and discontinued at least 34 train auditors. The order was issued March 1 but kept secret until now.
Little Rock chief of police Frank McMain issues a city wide sanitation enforcement to curb violations before the hot months. Officers will bring violators into police court to file cases but the aim is compliance, not arrest, with Judge Ratteree backing the effort. Residents are urged to maintain sanitary premises ahead of summer inspections.
Governor Pindall pardoned Otis Brooks who was convicted in Hempstead County Circuit Court in October 1907 of manslaughter and sentenced to two years. Brooks, a former Nevada County resident, has many friends glad he is released.
A special meeting of the retail merchants association is called for tonight at Blakely's store to consider business of importance. All members are requested to attend.
A reader from Washington writes March 7 to say he and his wife compete to read The Daily News first while away from home. He encloses subscription payment and sends regards to Prescott friends, noting he will likely be home by late May.
