Worthington Named Republican Governor Candidate in Arkansas

Special to the News Little Rock March 14 Col John J Worthington land office at Harrison will be the Republican governor candidate. J F Mayes previously thought likely, but Worthington appears set. Republicans aim for large Worthington vote and gains in the legislature, hoping to reduce Radical seats by four and increase Republican influence as the national convention nears.

Will Green not captured. Shawneetown search ends in error

Sheriff T. C. Wilson and Dr. J. H. Sutton traveled to Shawneetown to seize Will Green, the alleged murderer of Marshal John T. Hamilton. A morning message from Dr. Sutton said the arrested man was not Green, causing mistaken identity and ongoing searches by other crews. The paper teases Friday and Saturday ads and updates.

Speakership bid sparks campaign among Arkansas House figures

Hotel Board approves extra loan to complete building

At a board meeting held yesterday at 4:80 o clock in McRae & Tompkins offices, H EK Bemis was elected president and M W Gree son vice president while T C McRae became secretary and treasurer. The group voted to borrow 1000 from J G Clark to finish paying debts on the building, bringing total mortgage to 7000. The hotel is expected to open in the first week of April under Mr Briggs.

Fine Fruit Prospects In Little Rock Weather Boost

A Little Rock fruit grower says if the current ten day weather trend holds the fruit crop is safe. He notes most trees are in full bloom and peaches pears and plums will be well advanced within ten days, vulnerable only to a hard freeze. Southern Arkansas enjoys warm weather and active gardening.

Special train to Perryville for Jeff Davis meeting

Little Rock citizens plan a Rock Island special train for March 16 to attend Senator Jeff Davis and Prosecuting Attorney Lewis Rhoton’s Perryville appearance. At least 200 travelers expected from Little Rock, with Ben Griffin rumored to attend and a duo of roasters foreseen for Rhoton.
