The long menaced railroad cotton platform on West Front Street in Prescott was ordered removed by Mayor Calhoun after the city council set a thirty day deadline for the railroad company to relocate. Workmen under J. E. Horne cleared the structure, ending a health and beauty concern the paper notes had persisted for over a quarter century.
Little Rock June 10 special to the News says Attorney General Kirby is believed likely to rule against payment of warrants for clerks and committee members working after adjournment. A ruling adverse could prompt Governor Pindall to call a special session to authorize such work, affecting key bills including the general appropriation bill.
In Temple KE Terry of Prescott Arkansas visits his sister Mrs J M F Gill. Eunice Calloway of Prescott Arkansas arrives to pursue nurse training at Kings Daughters Hospital. Dr J M F Gill departs for Cameron to oversee Milam County Hospital this summer while Dr Shaw takes extended health vacation. Mrs Gill and children stay in Temple.
There is no change in Gov. Little's condition says Dr. Pittman. He rested comfortably despite heat and has rallied since returning from Texas. The governor has gained weight and built strength to resist heart failures, with every reason to hope for complete recovery.
Mrs Mary White, who has suffered another appendicitis attack, was taken Saturday night to a Little Rock sanatorium. Her condition is serious but the family hopes surgery may be avoided. Accompanying her were her father Dr Hesterly and O B Gordon.
A letter from the New Orleans mayor invites the mayor of Little Rock to attend a two day gathering of mayors from large southern cities on September 27 and 28. The goal is to organize a convention of mayors.
Acting Mayor Louis Volmer received a letter weighing the advisability of a contemplated international exposition to honor the canal’s construction. The event would be in New Orleans in 115. Volmer will forward the letter to Mayor Lenon, due back from progress. Sullards of Fordyce leads the East this week at the Institute urged as profitable. Nevada County Institute opens this morning with thirty five enrolled.
Teachers in Nevada County begin a two week institute led by Fordyce principal Prof Sullards. The program opened with a chorus and prayer by Dr Godbey. Prof Chappell presided, 35 teachers enrolled by noon, and secretary C C Calhoun was appointed to gather the attendance.
The Arkansas State Fair returns to Oakland Hot Springs October 3 to 1 elusive. The fair, endorsed by the legislature, will feature daily programs and large outdoor shows. All departments will be represented with expanded exposition space and revised premium lists. Sheriff Hood brings Bob Tramimell from Louisiana to await July court action.
