At a Gov Winant meeting with Executive Council members and Highway Commissioner Everett, a July 16 date was set for Little Bay bridge bids. The War Department approved modified plans after objections to the original design. Navigation now uses coal barges and small vessels, and proposed clearances suit current and future needs.

Miss Harriet H. Jones daughter of Mr and Mrs Ralph Jones of Lincoln Avenue earned a Bachelor of Theology at Gordon College graduation held at Park Street Church Boston Mass on Wednesday evening June 7 She is a Portsmouth High School graduate 1924 and Sibley Hospital Washington 1927 now a registered nurse in Washington DC and Massachusetts.
Gilman Randall of 7 South Mill Street was taken to the hospital Thursday after being struck by a machine owned and operated by Harold Stacy of 117 Cass Street at the State and Pleasant streets corner. Randall sustained minor injuries.
The degree teams of the Royal Arcanum nationwide contest will see Major Waldron Council's team judged by the Dover judges on the 20th. Local Alpha Council members in this city anticipate attending the event, with the local team's judging to follow at a later date.
The Coast Guard destroyer Wainwright connected with the American steamer Arizta today about a fire in its No 4 hold, 240 miles east of Boston. The crew may have it controlled as the ship heads for port carrying 35,000 bales of cotton, lumber, and resin from Mobile to Bremen. The fire was first reported yesterday and believed confined to one hold until port arrival.
After a joint Senate committee hearing, the measure to acquire the Hampton River Toll Bridge and build walls to protect coast sections was unanimously recommended. Hampton residents packed the committee room. the bill will be reported next Tuesday after the House already passed it.
Hampton Beach June 9 Arthur G Champagne 399 Maplewood avenue Portsmouth was arrested after bumping Levi Griffin 65 Mast street Manchester at the mile bridge toll gate on a charge of driving under the influence of liquor. Bond set at $200. He is scheduled to appear in Hampton municipal court at 9 o clock.
Morning report: Mr Griffin stopped at a toll gate when Mr Champagne's machine struck the rear of Griffin's sedan. No major damage reported. Police officer Jer responded on Harkness.
Brown Brothers, Harmon & Co. of Boston were awarded the bid for a $50,000 temporary revenue loan to the city. Bids were opened in the city auditor's office this morning. The loan matures September 9, 1933, with a bid rate of 3.48 percent.
New York June 9 trading slowed in a narrow range as investors paused for outlook. Stocks eased with some declines. wheat corn cotton held firm and silver futures improved. Tobacco shares led gains with American Tobacco B Liggett Meyers B Lorillard and Reynolds B rising 1 to 2 points. Oils like Standard of New Jersey Consolidated Gas Socony Vacuum and Atlantic Refining gained modestly. Western Union fell about 8 after railroad merger amendments were rejected. Home stake mining declined around 5 with large losses in Dupont American Can Allied Chemical Westinghouse National Distillers and U S Smelting.
The Community Citizens' committee orders all applicants for community gardens who have not planted their assigned lots to do so before tomorrow night. Unworked plots will be reassigned to those on the waiting list.
Robert Moller 40 of Candia New Hampshire leaped from a train into the Royal River at Yarmouth and sustained a spine fracture between the sixth and tenth vertebrae a fractured right leg and a cut on the leg. Hospital physicians said the spine fracture was likely from landing in shallow water and he appeared to have intended to harm himself with the grim request to be left alone after rescue.
W. D. Harrington of Andover, owner of the Harrington Hotel and the Oceania House at the Shoals, arrived in the city yesterday to ready both properties for their summer opening.
The Tender Hibiscus, a Portland vessel, was seen anchored in the harbor last evening while performing shoreline buoy repairs along the coast.
Jimmy Mattern, American aviator, continued his attempt to circumnavigate the globe, hopping from Krasnoyarsk to Nizhniudiinsk in eastern Siberia and planning a trans Pacific leg. He faced sickness and equipment issues but pressed toward Chita with hopes of beating the world-record pace set by Post and Gatty.
In Concord the granite cutters strike delays quarry work but signs point to settlement. Contractors reportedly agree to restore the $8 daily wage from before April, with other issues nearing resolution. The dispute between workers and employers appears to be relaxing as talks progress.
The annual lawn fete at Atlantic Heights School featured a clever children's costume parade with bicycles scooters tricycles carts hobbles and doll carriages. Prizes were awarded to named children for each category and a fathers and sons ball game ended 19 to 13 with boys winning after the parade.
