Geneva June 8 Japan announced it would seek total abolition of air bombing once the great powers ban aircraft carriers. Britain’s draft document includes abandonment of air bombardment. American aviator overcome by gasoline fumes lands in Siberia

Jimny Mattern, in the fifth lap of a around the world flight, nearly collapsed from fumes after a leaking fuel line. He landed at Belovo near Prokopievsk, Siberia, and described severe nausea and near loss of consciousness. Portsmouth post office addition bids due within 30 days

Washington June 9 The Portsmouth post office addition is included in the Presidents industrial recovery program. Bids on the Portsmouth construction may be called within 30 days and perhaps by the end of June. Specifications will be mimeographed for distribution and issued soon. The work is among about 20 projects slated for market as plans are completed.

Money Burned in Newbury House Fire Recovered by Treasury

Ashes of several hundred dollars in United States bills were recovered from the ruins of William Burns's home in Newbury Massachusetts after a fire destroyed the house and barn. The money, kept in a metal container, was redeemed by the Redemption Division of the United States Treasury despite being burned.

Fire damages restaurant in Greenland

Neighbors on Exeter Road aided by a garden hose and chemical extinguishers prevented total loss of Milton I. Brown's restaurant and adjoining garage in Greenland. The blaze started in the kitchen from gasoline and Portsmouth sent engine 1. by the time of arrival firemen found the fire nearly under control. Loss to equipment and building is about $200.

Woodsville man admits wife slaying attempt in court

Royal Corey, 48 of Swiftwater, pleaded guilty to assault with intent to kill for the February 28 Benton incident in which he tried to kill his wife and shot Tellis Gilman with a revolver. Judge Warren James sentenced him to 1 to 3 years in State Prison, with immediate transfer to Concord.
