Cotton Returns as King in Lower Rio Grande Valley
In the Harlingen area the Lower Rio Grande cotton crop rebounds with large output and rising prices. Grain sorghum had replaced cotton in irrigated fields last year as prices dropped, but growers like Jack Funk report a strong outlook this year if rains hold. Most cotton is sold under contracts locking in 55 to 57 cents per pound, shielding farmers from price swings though limited contract figures exist for 1975.
