Ruben Barrera and Ida Marchan were crowned King and Queen of Hearts before a capacity crowd Monday evening at the Port Isabel High School auditorium. The colorful pageant featured students in red and white robes, with court members and floral attendants, as elementary through high school participants presented dances and tributes to the new monarchs.

The Port Isabel Lions Club named Mrs. Charles Goldtrap the worthy citizen of the week at its regular meeting. A dinner honored her with a service scroll for community service. The club planned a three ring circus ticket campaign, with proceeds from March 4 advancing to the sight conservation fund. Tex Murphy played piano.
