NCCW Deanery Council Holds All Day Meeting in Port Isabel

The NCCW Deanery Council’s 16th tertiary meeting convened at Port Isabel with Our Lady Star of the Sea and St. Cecilia's of Los Fresnos as co hosts. High Mass at 9:30 a.m. featured Rev L J Fanning and Monsignor D A Lanning. A morning session included a First Grade entertainment and a luncheon at the Firemen’s Hall.

Refugi NCCW meeting afternoon session resumes

Oberste V.G.P.A. Diocean spiritual moderator presided as Rev. Lawrence Fansing OMI led the afternoon. Rev. Dan Lynch OMS gave an address and Mrs. J. K. Wells reported on the NCCW national meeting in Boston, Massachusetts.

Ex Pro Player Demonstrates Tennis Skills for Local Team

K. Gerza of the Harlingen Paint Co an ex pro tennis player and Valley promoter led a demonstration for the local high school tennis team. Four Harlingen players joined him as they played several games after noon at the high school. Garza gave pointers on grip serve and stroke and presented several team members tennis balls.

Scouters Meet For Instruction In Port Isabel High

A Port Isabel Scouters meeting last Tuesday at the high school provided training for Sea Scout Boy Scout and Cub Scout leaders. District field executive Joe Ben Hunsacker led the session with district training committee members guiding lectures and a film. The district plans monthly meetings as attendance supports, with the next session on March and the second Tuesday of each month thereafter.

Missouri Day on Padre Island Returns with Celebrate Missouri

The Port Isabel Chamber of Commerce invites all Winter visitors from Missouri to a Missouri Day on Padre Island February 27 starting at 12 30. Former Missouri residents now in the Valley are welcome. Attendees should bring a covered dish while coffee is provided. A beach day with dinner on the island patio is planned and more state gatherings are anticipated.

Well Baby Clinic Administers 235 Diphtheria Shots

Mrs. Lois Houston county nurse and Dr J A Hocka led the Well Baby Clinic on Friday delivering diphtheria shots to 235 children most as first doses with boosters planned for today. The Junior Service League and volunteers assisted. George Foote of Dallas, visiting Port Isabel residents Mr and Mrs J H Schmidt, arrived Saturday.

Valentine Coronation Set For Port Isabel High Monday

The Port Isabel High school will stage its annual Valentine coronation Monday at 7 30 p m in the auditorium. Ruben Barrera will be king Ida Marchan queen. Court of Honor, Lords and Ladies, train bearers, flower girls, crown bearers and Cupid will take part with Pedro Castro as master of ceremonies. Folk dances from several nations will be featured. Admission is 50 cents for adults and 25 cents for children.

Paving Start Near Port Isabel as Equipment Arrives

City officials say paving will begin in about two weeks in Port Isabel with contractors H. B. Zachry Company. About 1700 dollars in assessments will be guaranteed by the city to speed paving worth roughly 200000 dollars, amid signed homesteads and resistance from a few owners. Scouts and adults shared a potluck at the Elementary auditorium with 100 attendees, while football jackets for the team were distributed.

Coast Guard Adds 83-Foot Cutter to Port Isabel

A new 83-foot Coast Guard vessel is stationed at Port Isabel, joining a second 83-foot cutter in Port Isabel. The fleet will operate with CG Boutwell at Port Brownsville and the Lifeboat station on the island.

New CG 83 Footer Stationed Here

The Coast Guard assigns the CG 83342 to Port Isabel for added search and rescue coverage. Under Chief Boatswain Stanley Thoroughman and William A. Williamson the 83 footer will join nearby cutters Boutwell and CG-63387 to bolster operations in the Padre Island area.
